Huawei Fosters the Rise of Gigaband Access; Introduces 10Gbit/s HFC Access Platform
FREMONT, CA: Huawei Introduces a 10 Gbit/s hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) access platform with support for 10G DOCSIS3.1 in Cable and 10G PON in fiber to help MSOs (multiple-system operators) address the industry’s future evolution to IP videos and rise of Gigaband access.
With the industry’s move to convergence and MSOs looking to exploit the potential of existing coaxial cable infrastructures and invest in the future-oriented fiber to the home (FTTH) solution, Huawei’s platform aims to help them.
Huawei's 10 Gbit/s HFC access platform consists of a large-capacity OLT (Optical Line Terminal) for optical aggregator, high-density 10G PONinterface board, DOCSIS3.1 based D-CCAP (Distributed Converged Cable Access Platform), 10G PON ONT (Optical Network Terminal) and unified network management system. Leveraging these technologies, the platform enables achieving a 10 Gbit/s rate over coaxial cable and fiber.
The new platform improves the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and transmission efficiency and also saves about 70% space in headend and improves the preference up to 30% over coax. It supports both broadcasting TV and future IP video and also helps MSOs to realize the potential of coax, build the on-demand network, and generate innovative services based on hybrid access platform.
